Bu araştırmanın amacı, Türkiye'de güzel sanatlar alanında hazırlanmış sanatçı biyografisi konulu lisansüstü tezleri yöntemsel açıdan incelemektir. Araştırmanın veri kaynağı, 2000-2024 yılları arasında Yükseköğretim Kurulu Ulusal Tez Merkezi'nde erişime açık olarak yayımlanan ve belirlenen ölçütleri karşılayan toplam 139 lisansüstü tez oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yaklaşımı çerçevesinde doküman incelemesi yöntemi kullanılarak yürütülmüştür. Elde edilen veriler; tezlerin araştırma yöntemleri, veri toplama araçları, yöntem bölümlerinin yeterliliği, kuramsal çerçeve kullanımı ve biyografisi incelenen sanatçıların özellikleri bakımından betimsel analiz yoluyla değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular, incelenen tezlerde doküman incelemesinin en yaygın veri toplama yöntemi olduğunu, buna karşın görüşme ve gözlem gibi birincil veri toplama tekniklerinin sınırlı düzeyde kullanıldığını göstermektedir. Ayrıca tezlerin önemli bir bölümünde yöntem bilgilerinin eksik olduğu ve metodolojik çeşitliliğin yeterince sağlanamadığı belirlenmiştir. Tez yazarlarından elde edilen destekleyici anket bulgularında ise kaynaklara ulaşma ve kaynak yetersizliği gibi sorunların öne çıktığı görülmüştür. Araştırma sonuçları, güzel sanatlar alanındaki sanatçı biyografisi tezlerinde yöntemsel standartların geliştirilmesine ihtiyaç duyulduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.
The aim of this study is to examine postgraduate theses on artist biographies prepared in the field of fine arts in Türkiye in terms of their methodological characteristics. The data source of the study consists of 139 postgraduate theses that were published with open access in the National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education between 2000 and 2024 and met the specified criteria. The study was conducted within the framework of a qualitative research approach using the document analysis method. The data obtained were evaluated through descriptive analysis in terms of the research methods, data collection tools, adequacy of the methodology sections, use of theoretical frameworks, and characteristics of the artists whose biographies were examined. The findings indicate that document analysis is the most commonly used data collection method in the examined theses, whereas primary data collection techniques such as interviews and observations are used to a limited extent. In addition, it was determined that methodological information was insufficient in a significant proportion of the theses and that adequate methodological diversity was not achieved. Supporting survey findings obtained from thesis authors indicated that difficulties in accessing sources and insufficient sources were among the prominent problems experienced during the thesis writing process. The results of the study reveal a need to improve methodological standards in postgraduate theses on artist biographies in the field of fine arts.
