Baskı teknolojisindeki gelişmelerin akabinde font teknolojisi, dijital çağla evrimini farklı bir boyuta taşımıştır. Günümüzde bit eşlemli yazı tipleri olarak da adlandırılan ekran yazı tipleri ve dijital bir ekosistem ortaya çıkmıştır. Araştırmanın temel amacını günümüz eğitim sisteminde yeni nesil değişken font teknolojisinin öğrencilerin öğrenme, dikkat ve okuma algısı üzerindeki etkisinin araştırılması oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmaya Türkiye’nin 30 ilinden, 7 farklı türde ortaokul ve liselerin 5-12. sınıfları arasında öğrenim gören, 540 öğrenci katılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak 53 sorudan oluşan online anket kullanılmıştır. Toplanan veriler SPSS 25.0 programından faydalanılarak nicel analiz yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin, dijital ortamlarda okuma yapmaya karşı mesafeli bir yaklaşım sergiledikleri görülmüştür. Ancak öğrenciler, yeni nesil değişken font teknolojisinin dijital ortamlarda kullanımına pozitif bir yaklaşım içerisindedirler. Yeni nesil değişken font teknolojisinin, öğrenme, dikkat ve okuma algısı üzerinde de güçlü bir etkisinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu nedenle, dijital ortamlarda standart font teknolojisi yerine değişken font teknolojisinin kullanımı önerilmektedir.
Font technology, which follows the developments in printing technology and paper quality, has taken its evolution to another dimension with the digital age. Today, a digital ecosystem of screen fonts, also called bitmapped fonts, has emerged. The main purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of new generation variable font technology on students’ learning, attention and reading perception in today’s education system. The research was carried out in 7 different types of secondary schools and high schools in 30 provinces of Turkey. A total of 540 students studying between 5-12th grades participated in the study. An online questionnaire consisting of 53 questions was used as a data collection tool. The collected data were analyzed with the quantitative analysis method using the SPSS 25.0 program. As a result of the research, it was seen that the students showed a distant approach towards reading in digital environments. However, students have a very positive approach to the use of new generation variable font technology in digital environments. It has been determined that the new generation variable font technology has a strong effect on learning, attention and reading perception. For this reason, it is recommended to use variable font technology instead of standard font technology in digital environments.
