İnsanlığın varoluşundan bu yana vazgeçilmez bir olgu olan eğitim, zaman içerisinde kurumsallaşarak her millet özelinde kendine özgü bir sistemi yaratmıştır. Toplumun sosyal, kültürel, politik ve ekonomik dinamikleriyle şekillendirilen bu sistem, ait olduğu toplumun normlarını yansıtmak ve o toplumun eğitimden beklentilerini gerçekleştirmekle yükümlüdür. Orta Çağ dönemi, Yunan-Roma kültürü sonrası ve Aydınlanma Çağı'na kadar uzanan yaklaşık bin yıllık bir dönemi kapsamaktadır. Antikçağ ile Rönesans arası geçiş dönemi olarak görebileceğimiz bu dönem, bir önceki dönemden farklı ve kendinden sonraki dönemin hazırlayıcısı niteliktedir. Eski çağlardan günümüze kadar farklı şekillerde harmanlanarak gelen eğitim kavramının Orta Çağ okullarında ve sonrasında Antik Yunan’dan ortaya çıkan Quadrivium felsefesiyle her ülkede ve zamanda şekillendiği görülmektedir. İnsanı geçmişten günümüze bilim, eğitim ve sanata yönelten sebeplerin huzur veren ve ilgi toplayan yanını quadrivium öğretisi kaynaklı geometri, astronomi, aritmetik ve müzik odaklı çalışmalar oluşturmaktadır. Müzik bilimi üzerinden yanıt arama çabası içerisinde ilgili literatürün taranması ile oluşturulan çalışmada, Antik Yunan’da ortaya çıkan Quadrivium felsefesi ve 1940-1954 yılları arasında denenmiş Köy Enstitüsü modeli arasındaki ilişki bilim, felsefe, eğitim ve müzik bağlamları ile ortaya koyulmuştur.

Education, which has been an indispensable phenomenon since the existence of humanity, has been institutionalized over time and has created a unique system for each nation. This system, shaped by the social, cultural, political and economic dynamics of the society, is responsible for reflecting the norms of the society it belongs to and realizing the expectations of that society from education. The medieval period covers a term of about a thousand years, extending from the post-Greco-Roman culture to the Age of Enlightenment. This period, which we can see as the transition period between Antiquity and the Renaissance, is different from the previous period and is preparatory to the next period. It is seen that the concept of education, which has been blended in different ways from ancient times to the present, has been shaped in every country and time in the medieval schools and later with the Quadrivium philosophy that emerged from Ancient Greece. Geometry, astronomy, arithmetic and music-oriented studies originating from the doctrine of the quadrivium constitute the peaceful and interesting side of the reasons that lead people to science, education and art from the past to the present. In the study, which was created by scanning the relevant literature in an effort to seek answers through the science of music, the relationship between the Quadrivium philosophy, which emerged in Ancient Greece, and the Village Institute model, which was tried between 1940-1954, was revealed in the contexts of science, philosophy, education and music.
