Genel anlamda basın, özelde ise dergiler, toplumların değişim ve dönüşümünde kritik öneme sahip araçlardır. 1930’lu yıllar, Türk toplumunun yüzyıllardır oluşturduğu alışkanlıklarını büyük oranda değiştirdiği 1920’li yıllardan hemen sonraki yıllardır. Bu değişimin nasıl gerçekleştiği, bu konuda basının ne gibi roller üslendiği merak edilen bir konu olmuştur. Bu çalışmaya konu olan Resimli Şark Dergisi ile 1931-1935 yıları arasında toplumsal evrimin kodları çözülmeye çalışılacaktır. Resimli Şark Dergisi bizlere yaptığı yayınlarla toplumsal dönüşümün gerçekleşme şekillerini gösterdiği gibi, çoğu zaman da toplumsal dönüşümün oluşumuna öncülük yapan bir yayın politikası takip etmiştir. Bu süreçte bazen inkılap hareketlerinin uygulama basamakları anlatılmış, bazen de Türk gençliğine tavsiyeler biçiminde yazılara yer verilmiştir. Türkiye'nin dünyanın en güçlü devletlerinden birisi olabileceği şeklinde Türk toplumuna motive edici yazılara da rastladığımız dergide; o dönem, tartışmaların odağında yer alan Türkçe ezan, Türk Dil Kurumu’nun öz Türkçe, Türk Tarih Kurumu’nun İslamiyet öncesi Türklerin tarihi gibi konularda yapılmış yazılara da rastlanılmaktadır.
