It started with the Sassanid King Narseh pursuing an aggressive policy against Rome starting from 296. King Narseh was defeated by the Roman army under the command of Caesar Galerius in the war that took place in Satala, located in Anatolia. In addition to the spoils obtained in the war, Narseh’ royal family was also captured. For the Romans, this meant taking revenge on emperor Valerian. After King Narseh, who managed to escape, requested his family, the Treaty of Nisibis, the terms of which were determined by Rome, was made in 299 and resulted in Rome’s favor. This victory against the Sassanids was announced in almost every area of the empire, was depicted in architectural works, and the four rulers of the Tetrarchia Period shared the title of victory. Roman domination, which was established for forty years until 337, began to weaken with Shapur II’s anti-Roman initiatives. The aim of this study is to evaluate the process that started the Battle of Satala, one of the great victories of the Tetrarchia Period, and the stages of the war and make determinations about its results. With these determinations, the history of the Treaty of Nisibis will be clarified. In addition, the importance of the victory will be evaluated in the context of Caesar Galerius, and what kind of ambition a caesar had for power as a result of his victory and what impact it had on the administration of the state will be discussed.

Since the study seeks to determine the conceptual metaphorical perceptions of pre-service teachers, a qualitative research approach was employed, specifically the phenomenology design. The study was conducted during the Spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year with 60 pre-service teachers enrolled in the Department of Geography Education at Dokuz Eylül University, Buca Faculty of Education. Data were collected through a questionnaire designed by the researchers, consisting of three sections. The questionnaire was created and administered online via Google Forms. The data were analyzed using content analysis, a method frequently employed in the social sciences. As a result of the analysis, a total of 43 different metaphors were generated by the participants, and these metaphors were grouped into four categories: education, benefit, emotion, and teaching method. Themes were also developed within each category. The findings revealed that nearly all pre-service teachers held positive views towards field trips, with only three students producing negative metaphors. Additionally, the metaphors were evaluated in the context of gender and grade level.

Epidemics have caused millions of deaths, stopped armies that were thought to be invincible and shaped social life in many ways. The study was designed in qualitative research design and document review and descriptive content analysis were used in the study. Epidemics such as plague, smallpox, syphilis, cholera, tuberculosis, malaria, leprosy, typhus, measles, influenza, meningitis, yellow fever, Spanish flu, HIV and coronaviruses have caused mass deaths and deeply affected humanity throughout history.

Globalization refers to the case wherein individuals’ demand the fulfillment of their needs and desires from the world that they cannot fulfill within national borders and the dynamism these demands cre- ate within themselves. Moreover, this dynamic structure, which exists to satisfy needs and desires, has massively impacted the financial, political, and social lives of societies. Shaped around globalization, a global market was established in the world. Further, the communication emerging due to the establish- ment of a global market necessitated the development of a common perspective among distinct cultures and revealed a need for people who could perceive this aspect. Thus, an inevitable bond was formed between globalization and education; this relationship is evidently observed in higher education institu- tions, as they are one of the essential components of an information society. This study therefore deals with different periods wherein the effects of globalization were noticed and the interaction between these periods and the field of higher education.
