Etnoslar coğrafi mekânın ayrılmaz parçasıdırlar hem ondan etkilenirler hem de onu etkilerler. Etnoslar ekosistemlerin ve doğal unsurlarının şekillendirmesiyle belirli coğrafi mekânlarda ortaya çıkarlar, burada gelişirler, yayılırlar ve zamanı geldiğinde bazen burada yok olup giderler. Mekân, zaman, ölçek ve resmiyet durumuna göre gezegenimizdeki etnoslar büyük çeşitlilik gösterir. Etnocoğrafya merkezli bu çalışmada hem etnosların ve etnik toplulukların ayırt edici başlıca özellikleri hem de etnik grupların oluşumu, gelişimi ve sınırları tartışılmıştır. Çalışmada bir yandan etnik toplulukların bekasını veya etnik sürekliliğini belirleyen başlıca etkenler diğer yandan da etnos ile ulus kavramları arasındaki başlıca farklılıklar irdelenmiştir. Çalışmada hem başat millet ile azınlık grup arasındaki ilişkiler ve etkileşimlerhem küresel ölçekte etnik toplulukların gruplandırılmasıhem de etnik kimlikleri ve etnik bilinci biçimlendiren etkenler örnekler verilerek irdelenmiştir.
Ethnos are an inseparable part of geographic space, they are both influence and influenced by it. Ethnos emerge in certain geographical spaces, shaped by ecosystems and their natural elements, where they evolve, spread, and sometimes disappear. Ethnos on our planet are vary greatly according to space, time, scale and formality. In this ethno-geography-based study are discussed both the distinctive characteristics of ethnos and ethnic communities and the formation, development and borders of ethnic groups. In this study, it is examined the survival or ethnic continuity of ethnic communities as a main factor, on the one hand and the main differences between the concepts of ethnos and nation. In this study, both the relations and interactions between the dominant nation and the minority group, the grouping of ethnic communities on a global scale and the factors that shape ethnic identities and ethnic consciousness are examined by giving examples.
