ANALYZING FACTORS AFFECTING TEACHER MOTIVATION INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOLS


The aim of this study is to analyze factors that affect teacher motivation inside and outside of the schools among teachers working at public schools of Ministry of National Education in Turkey. The study group consists of 75 teachers of 18 different branches working at primary and secondary schools in Afyonkarahisar, Ankara, Erzurum, Istanbul, Ordu, Samsun and Yozgat cities of Turkey. Qualitative research method was employed through interviews and a structured interview form was used as data collection tool. In the light of the collected data, teacher motivation is affected mostly by student factor inside the school. Teachers are motivated by their students’ success. Teachers find student interest in classes as a motivating factor as well as student success. In addition, it is a motivating factor that teachers have good relations with their colleagues and administrators based on trust. Most remarkable motivation sources outside of the schools are family and respectability factors.
