THE EFFECTS OF PICTURE THERAPY ON CHILDREN WITH 7-12 AGE GROUP LEUKEMIA


In this study, the pictures drawn by children with leukemia and the effects of their emotions, thoughts and disease on the pictures they have drawn are examined. The aim of the study was to determine the psychological and social conditions of children via pictures during the leukemia and its treatment. Also the effect of art on treatment has been investigated. The study is important because it will produce findings that will contribute to the child's healing process. Pictures drawn by a total of 10 leukemia children (7-12 age group, 5 female and 5 male) treated in Dışkapı Training and Research Hospital were analyzed by applying phenomenology method from qualitative research designs. As a result of the research, the psychological and social conditions of children in the treatment of leukemia were determined. It has been determined that leukemia has negative effects on children in terms of psychological, familial and social aspects and that children give quite clear messages through pictures. Based on the findings, recommendations were made to the families of children and everyone in touch with them.
