ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ SELF-EVALUATION OF CREATIVE WRITING TECHNIQUES

Creative writing techniques treat writing as a process. Several studies have shown that exploiting creative writing techniques as a writing activity improves students’ creativity, imagination and writing skills along with their attitude towards writing. It is essential for teachers to have learnt about creative writing techniques by experience since they have a crucial role in the application process of such techniques. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to include elementary school teachers in creative writing activities and reveal their end-of-activity self-evaluations. To this end, an action research has been conducted with the participation of 44 elementary school teachers. The data has been collected through an evaluation form consisting of open-ended questions, and content analysis has been used. Results have shown that the teachers do not have knowledge of creative writing and they do not use these techniques in their lessons. Additionally, the teachers indicated that they would apply the techniques they have learnt in their lessons. The results have also shown that creative writing techniques help teachers in 11 aspects such as having in-class practices and enhancing students’ level of knowledge and skills.
