“ĀCI(U)Ġ, ʽECCİ, ʽECCÜG(K)” WORDS IN IRAQI-TURKMAN DIALECTS WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF PHONO-SEMANTIC VARIATION/ARCHAISM


This article explores the issue of phono-semantic variation in detail while it also defines the term of archaism. Besides, the relationship between two has been investigated within the framework of the words “ācıġ/ācuġ,ʽecci, ʽeccüg/k” from Iraqi-Turkman dialects. It has been aimed to demonstrate how useful method it is to determine which word was etymologically original thus archaic by demonstrating the correlation between these two terms in this article. The article has also investigated how archaic the meanings of these words were and it has been proved that there exist several clues regarding dialect classification by conducting plenty comparisons among written language and dialects of Azerbaijani and Turkey Turkic Languages. The relationship between archaism and emergence of conceptual fields has also been explored by drawing attention to how widely the archaic word ācıġ/ācuġ is used today. Besides, the role of phono-semantic variation in formation and development of the vocabulary of a language as a way of derivation has been demonstrated via several examples.
