A GENERAL EVALUATION ON 2017 PRIMARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM


IIn 2017, the new primary and middle school social studies curriculum has been adopted and started to be implemented from 2017-2018 academic year. The aim of this research is to reveal the innovations and differences introduced by the 2017 social studies curriculum. The most recent version of the 2005 social studies curriculum and the 2017 social studies curriculum was used as the basic material in the research that used the general survey model and the document analysis method. In the research, both curricula were examined with the dimension of vision and basic approach, general aims, skills, concept, value, learning areas and units, achievements, measurement and evaluation and associations, and the differences between them and the innovations brought about by the new program were tried to be presented. As a result of the research, it is found out that there is not a significant difference in the vision and basic approach of the new program, the values and skills emphasized on the general purpose and the number of the values and skills are increased, the themas and the numbers of the places included in the program are reduced, that the values are added, that there are no associations, that there are no explanations and concept lists related to concept teaching, and that general information about measurement and evaluation is insufficient.
