The teaching of guitar, which is one of the most popular instruments of our time, is widely carried out both in general and professional music as well as volunteer music. Instructors come across with several problems resulted from students, instrument, and teaching methods. These problems can be listed as right and left hand problems, coordinative musical note following,student’s lack of time to practice guitar etc. In order to prevent these problems, researchers have tried and suggested different methods in guitar teaching. The purpose of this study is to analyze different guitar teaching approaches published in Turkey and to present them to the attention and use of guitar instructors and students who aim to progress in guitar. As being one of the qualitative research methods, descriptive analysis method was used in the study, and “document analysis” was carried out. In accordance with this aim, articles and theses published about different guitar teaching approaches were analyzed. Approximately 6 published guitar approaches were accessed. Benefits and effectiveness of these approaches in guitar teaching were analyzed, and their common usage in guitar teaching was evaluated. The acquired findings were listed in the research, and suggestions about some untouched issues were made. It is considered that the research will reach to the instructors who have problems in guitar teaching, and it will both bring light to the problems experienced in guitar teaching process and open the way for new methods.
