A CONTRIBUTION TO THE TEXT ENTHUSIAST: ORTHOGRAPHY SHORTENINGS AND “RUMUZ”S USED BY SCRIBALS

Written works, which are considered as carriers of the cultural heritage before the printing press, have an important place in Classical Turkish literature studies. The vast majority of the work done in the field is basically based on texts. It is not always possible to read the manuscript correctly and completely. The reasons for this are varied: In order to understand the “rumuz”s in the text because of not being able to interpretation the text, to resolve the letters, or to fail to catch the imaginary world of classical literature, and the lack of knowledge of the orthography of the scribals. The researchers who deal with the text should be able to analyze other elements of text beyond simply reading and understanding. The purpose of this article is two fold: to give information about the shortening of the scribals in the texts, and secondly to introduce some of the “rumuz”s used by the scribals in literary texts. Thus, the text will help to read one of the difficulties that “rumuz”s encountered during the reading.
