The treatment of the problems in human health by way applied by the public is accepted as folk medicine. Folk medicine, which is as old as human history, continues to exist today with various practices and ways. Among these treatment methods, the methods applied in “ocaklık” is important. In folk medicine, “ocak” is known as a family believed to heal a certain disease and is shaped within a tradition. In this context, it is noteworthy that serious illnesses are generally treated by the the person who has “ocak”. Hatay is a city rich in folk medicine practices. The geographical structure of Hatay and the hosting of different civilizations reveals this situation. Hatay mediterranean climate features different plant species, as well as the interaction with different civilizations is important in terms of folk medicine. In this study, the practices of folk medicine in Hatay will be evaluated in the context of the “ocaklık” tradition and Samandağ sociology sample.
