THE STUDY OF DEVELOPING AN ACADEMIC SUCCESS TEST AIMED AT THE UNIT “FORCE AND ENERGY” FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL LEARNERS IN SCIENCE COURSES


In every aspect of education while decisions are being made, measurement and evaluation studies are used, which are insepereable parts of education. Determining how much the learners take in from what is given to them is only possible through measuring their academic success. While measuring learners' academic success it is important to use appropriate measurement method in order to make a valid and reliable measurement, besides using the academic success tools which are appropriate according to the goals (Bingöl ve Halisdemir, 2017). Therefore, the goal of this study is determined as developing a measurement tool concerned with the unit "Force and Energy" in order to measure 7th grade students' academic success. The testing form of the test, which is composed of 42 items, was applied to 243 students living in Adıyaman and studying in 5 secondary schools coded as A, B, C, D and E. The item difficulty index for the questions in the test is above 0. 40, and the average distinctiveness index of the questions of the test is 0.520, the average difficulty index is 0.550, the standard deviation of the test is 4.22 and the total variance is 17.821. The final form of the test is composed of 20 questions. In order to provide the internal consistency between the test scores, Kuder Richardson-20 analysis was made and this Score is found as 0.76. We can say that as a result of the item analysis and the internal consistency analysis, the test has an average difficulty level, a high distinctiveness level and it is valid with high reliability levels.
