MERZBAU AS A LIFE PRACTICE

At the beginning of the 19th century and just before the 20th century, radical changes in every sub-continent Europe have also manifested themselves in the field of art and thought. There has never been such a consistent and powerful transformation in the history of art, both formal and intellectual. The anarchist art that started with futurism at this period where art, aesthetics, sociology, philosophy and even life are deeply questioned has gained formalism with attitude Dada. The German artist Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948), who has rejected all the artistic attitudes of the past and instead proposed an anti-aesthetic, anti-artistic structure, is situated in a separate place with the installations and performances it has done. While he calls all his work Merz, he makes inquiries about meaning and meaninglessness through these works. The three-dimensional installations that cover the entire space and transform itself into space are works that, beyond being a finished installation, are born with the artist and transform into a living practice of the artist with a clearer discourse living with him.
