VIEWS OF EDUCATION FACULTY MEMBERS RELATED TO TEACHER TRAINING


Teacher education in our country that is always on the agenda is much concerned area by both academia and in different parts of the society. It is very important to be determined perspectives of faculty members in education departments to make the education system which works better. Because of this reason, the purpose of this study is to determine the perspectives of faculty members who work at department of turkish and social sciences education about teacher education. The data of the study which was conducted with a qualitative approach were obtained through interviews. Study group of this study is 16 faculty members who are affiliated for Atatürk University and Gazi University. The data is figured out through the method of content analysis. Findings show that faculty members see that the most important function of education faculty is to educate teacher candidates and the most important function faculty of since and letters is to make research and to educate researchers. Faculty members think that students from department of education have got more teacher psychology and motivation than faculty of since and letters students. They also state that a teacher might have field knowledge, cultural background and professional knowledge and skill. Faculty members also expressed that significant barriers of teacher education system are insufficient training and practices, and inappropriate exam as Public Personnel State Examination for instatement.
