The five-volume “Divân-ı Lügâti’t Türk”, which he prepared, is known to be his most valuable work that he brought to the Turkish cultural history. Besim Atalay wrote 47 books and meanwhile served as a Member of Parliament in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. This paper deals with his speeches in the Parliament that he gave between 1937 and 1941. In almost all of these speeches, Besim Atalay gives his ideas as to language, culture and literature. It is of vital importance that these speeches contained the concepts of authentic Turkish, refining language, language as the basis of national unity, and neologisms in language.
