Non-Finite Verbal Forms Used in Abdülhalûk Uygur’s Poems

Abdülhalûk Uygur (1901-1933) is an important figure who pioneered in the creation of contemporary Uighur poetry together with Abdülkadir Abdülvaris Azizi (1826-1924) and Kutluk Şevki (1876-1937). He wrote poetry in order to awaken the Uighur Turks who were deliberately left ignorant and lived in captivity. He used a simple language and style, a close to people’s language in his poetry. This language and style used in his poems has been the basis for the formation of the new Uyghur dialect. Non-finite verbal forms, one of the most important elements of language and style used in his poems by Abdülhalûk Uygur, are discussed in this article. The poems used in this study are taken from Professor Dr. Alimcan INAYET’s book titled “Abdülhalûk Uygur ve Şiirleri”, one of the most important books published in Turkey about Abdülhalûk Uygur. Deverbal nouns, participles and gerunds have been identified in the poems and the way he used these forms meticulosly has been studied.
