Onomatopoeic Verbs Derived From Onomatopoeic Words in Kirghiz Turkish

Onomatopoeic words have a distinctive place in the vocabulary of languages. These words of several Turkic dialects and literary languages have been studied by different researchers. Onomatopoeic verbs are the words that imitate or define the sounds or visions coming from any living or non-living creatures around us. Onomatopoeic words exist in all the languages and there are a good number of them in Turkish as well. These words are used not only in literary language or spoken language but in dialects widely as well. They are also used in proverbs, in folk tales, and in idioms. This is because they help to convey an idea exactly and comprehensively. There are onomatopoeic verbs derived from onomatopoeic words. They are divided into two categories as sound symbolism and shape symbolism. Sound symbolisms are made from the sounds coming from the nature, animals, people, all living and non-living creatures. Shape symbolisms are made from the shapes or the movements of things. In this paper, verbs of shape symbolisms in Kirghiz Turkish and the suffixes will be studied.
