The Use of the Morphemes {-Iş} and { dIk+sIrA} in the Accents of the Mersin County and How We Perceive Them

This study deals with two separate morphemes in the Mersin accents. Firstly the article studies how the morpheme {-Iş} takes on a particular property when it is used together with the verbs ‘bak-’ and ‘kit-’ Examples have been demonstrated of how the noun ‘bakış’ which is made from the verb ‘bak-’ is used as postposition in comparisons after it is connected to a noun with the dative case suffix {+A} as (+A bakış “+A göre”); and it is explained how the determinative structure the derivative ‘keliş’ makes up with the demonstrative adjective bu ( bu keliş “this time”) is used as an adverb. Secondly, the use of the postposition ‘sıra’ in the accents of the Mersin County is dealt with. The adverbs like garerinsıra “kararınca” meaning “as much as one could afford” and öyleliksıra “öylece” meaning “thus” which the postposition ‘sıra’ makes up after being connected to a noun, are studied. This paper also draws the attention of the readers to the frequency of the use of the gerund {-dIk+sıra} which is used as {-DIk+çA} in the standard Turkish language, and concentrates on the use of the morphemes {-InsIrak} and {IsIrAk} which we believe have come about by the use of the postposition ‘sıra.’
