The Hamse Turks and Hamse Dialect

Novadays Iranian province Zanjan used to be called as Hamse Mahalı. A Turkish grouping called the Hamse tribes lives in the Farsistan province. They have no any connection or similarity with the Hamse (Zanjan) province. In the latter province there are mostly Avshar Turks, who densely populate the regions from the southwest of Kazvin to Sayınkale and Sultaniye, and Upper and Lower Tarum, even surroundings of Halhal in the north. They are usually called the Hamse / Hamselü Avşars. An outstanding work on the Zanjan dialect belongs to the folklorist Muhammed Hasan Yusufî, who published the proverbs book İl Sözleri (Homeland Words, 1998/1377). The local proverbs are given with dialectial features.
