An Assessment of Bahaeddin Ögel’s Work Named “Harput Dialect Phonetics and Morphology”


Bahaeddin Ögel, who has a very important place with his Works on General Turkish History and History of Culture in the field of studies on Turkish history, has an unpublished study named “Harput Dialect Phonetics and Morphology”. The study is recorded in the library of Turkish Language Association with inventory stock number ET00038. Ögel’s study consists of 140 pages. It starts with “Introduction” part. In this section, general information is given about Harput, Elazığ and Harput dialect. Then, transcription signs used in the study are presented. The study consists of two main parts named Phonetics and Morphology. After these two parts, four texts compiled from Harput are included. Investigation in Phonetics and Morphology parts is based on these texts. At the end of the study, there is a glossary based on these texts. In this article, the work, which has not been studied so far, is introduced generally, evaluated and compared with other works done about Harput dialect. Starting form Ögel’s work, the importance of Harput dialect has been emphasized and the place of Harput dialect has been determined in Turkey Turkish dialects.
