Problems of the Atlas of Turkey Turkish Dialects

The first studies on Turkey Turkish dialects go back till the midst of 19th century and they were done by the foreign researchers. Native researchers tended to study on Turkey Turkish dialects after 1940ies and many studies have been done so far. There are general classification studies as well as compilations, investigations and comparative works. Tough many studies on Turkey Turkish dialects have been done so far, it is an important problem as an atlas of Turkey Turkish dialects has not been prepared. We pointed out the concept of atlas in general, mentioned about why dialect atlas has not been studied so far, emphasized the problems about preparing Turkey Turkish dialects atlas and evaluated several criteria used in the process of dialect atlas preparation.
